Jerry Calypso

Considered by several NY sportswriters to be one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the sport.

He was a young butcher working in his hometown of Greenpoint Brooklyn. His fame as a top bowler grew to the point that, in 1969, he was invited to join the professional bowlers tour. Jerry helped create the Professional Bowlers Tour (PBT), as we know it today and won 14 PBT events as well as two Senior Tour events. He was one of bowling's first national stars, when the ABC network broadcast bowling tournaments on Saturday afternoons. He was Regional Bowler of the Year in 1972, and 1974. Jerry was reported missing on November 13th 1979, a day after his last tour victory.                              

Mr. Calypso's is survived by his daughter Jereldine, she continues to oversee many of Jerry's entrepreneurial enterprises.

Facts:

-Once bowled a game against Frank Sinatra aboard the SS New Jersey.

-Was a charter member of "Gutters for the Homeless" a charity organization

-Fought Nelson Burton, Jr. on live TV telecast, when Burton refused to remove his wristguard.

-Won ten of the first 17 PBT tournaments he competed in.

-Jerry has to this point been shunned by the PBT Hall of Fame.
